HISTORY
In January 2010, Mr. Gregory LaPorta saw the need for local community radio to discuss real issues that affected Las Vegas families during the 2008 financial crisis. As Mr. LaPorta began to discuss the idea for a local community radio station with family and friends, he outlined a plan to bring another independent broadcast media service to Las Vegas, Nevada.

2010

2010 - Las Vegas Public Radio is founded by Mr. Gregory LaPorta in early January. Initial programming strategies were being discussed throughout the year to determine topics that would be of the public's interest.

2011

2011 - In the early part of the year, Las Vegas, Nevada Attorney Matthew Callister advises Mr. Gregory LaPorta to find a way to get information to the public about the rampant mortgage fraud that is happening throughout the community. Providing information to the public through Local Community Radio was seen as a real necessity.
2011 - The Internet domain names lvpr.org and lasvegaspublicradio.org are secured on December 18th by Porstonic Communications, LLC (a local community radio investor for Las Vegas, Nevada).

2012

2012 - Las Vegas Public Radio becomes an official non-profit organization in the State of Nevada.
2012 - Las Vegas Public Radio applied for and received the necessary copyright for the "lasvegaspublicradio.org" and "lvpr.org" websites as well as "The People's Voice of Las Vegas" slogan on November 27th with the United States Copyright Office.

2013

2013 - Studio B development get's underway in early February.
2013 - Mr. Gregory LaPorta goes international with Las Vegas Public Radio to meet with an official with public radio in Beijing, China in April regarding localized programming strategies for the Chinese community in Las Vegas.
2013 - By mid-year, Las Vegas Public Radio began conducting on-air tests operating under the Federal Communications Commission Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 47 Sections 15.207, 15.209, 15.219, and 15.221 for unlicensed operation in various areas of Las Vegas.
2013 - Las Vegas Public Radio applied for and received the trademark for "Las Vegas Public Radio" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on August 20th.
2013 - Las Vegas Public Radio receives it's initial business license with the City of Las Vegas on September 16th.
2013 - Las Vegas Public Radio filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on October 16th to be a fully licensed Low Power FM Broadcast Radio Station (LPFM) through the Local Community Radio Act of 2010, signed by President Obama on January 4, 2011.
2013 - Mr. Gregory LaPorta goes international with Las Vegas Public Radio to meet with the US-China trade office in Shanghai, China on November 7th regarding localized programming strategies for the Chinese community in Las Vegas. 2013 - On December 16th, Las Vegas Public Radio was placed into MX (Mutually Exclusive) Classification status at the Federal Communications Commission.

2014

2014 - In May, Mr. Gregory LaPorta goes international once again with Las Vegas Public Radio to seek out Latino cultural programming in Lima, Peru for the Latino community in Las Vegas.
2014 - Las Vegas Public Radio continues to wait on action by the Federal Communications Commission as of May 28th.
2014 - On July 9th, the Federal Communications Commission tentatively selects Las Vegas Public Radio for one of the available LPFM frequencies in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2014 - On September 5th, the Federal Communications Commission granted Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. a Low Power FM Broadcast Station Construction Permit for 97.9 FM in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2014 - The Federal Communications Commission grants Las Vegas Publit Radio the call letters of KIOF-LP on September 12, 2014.
2014 - Las Vegas Public Radio began restructuring the website in September based on actions by the Federal Communications Commission.

2015

2015 - In February, the Federal Communications Commission assists Las Vegas Public Radio with remedial steps to resolve a tri-state interference issue due to a K250AF translator overlapping into the Las Vegas Public Radio/KIOF-LP 97.9 FM 60dBu contour.
2015 - Amy LaPorta joins the Board of Directors in March to become the Las Vegas Public Radio/KIOF-LP 97.9 FM English Tourism Interpretor for Genting Berhad Resort World Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
2015 - Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. notifies the Federal Communication Commission on April 20, 2015 to begin initial equipment testing under 47 C.F.R. Section 73.1610 for resolving an interference issue.
2015 - KIOF-LP 97.9 FM and Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. were denied the right to conduct a community/public-based initial equipment test on taxpayer public property at the City of Las Vegas Development Services Center Building at 333 North Rancho, by the City of Las Vegas at this time. No reason for the denial was made by the City of Las Vegas. Further research found the City of Las Vegas Development Services Building roof-top is exclusively setup for cell antenna leases (i.e. AT&T, Cricket Wireless and Metro-PCS). Ironically, cell antenna signals and FM radio signals are seamless and unnoticeable. Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. is exercising it's right to due process (the Federal Communications Commission and the United States Justice Department were notified under 47 C.F.R. Section 73.1610).
2015 - On Sunday, August 9, 2015 between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. conducted an FCC 47 C.F.R. Section 73.1610 - Initial Equipment Field Test from its Studio B location (main studio).
2015 - On Saturday, September 5, 2015 between 8:30 AM and 12:00 PM, KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. conducted an FCC 47 C.F.R. Section 73.1610 - Initial Equipment Field Test from its Studio B location (main studio) to the Clark County Shooting Range.
2015 - On October 8, 2015, the Federal Communications Commission granted KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. a construction permit modification to move our tower location and increase power.
2015 - KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. completes it's tower move and antenna installations at it's new site in North Las Vegas.
2015 - On December 31, 2015, the Federal Communications Commission granted KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. a construction permit modification to move it's main studio to 400 S. 4th Street, Suite 500 in downtown Las Vegas.

2016

2016 - On January 1, 2016, KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. begins LPFM music licensing with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and SoundExchange.
2016 - On January 9, 2016 at 11:33 AM, KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. powered up its transmitter to begin 24/7 operations under 47 C.F.R. Section 73.1610 Equipment Testing and 47 C.F.R. Section 73.1620 Program Testing of the Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
2016 - The City of Las Vegas issued a new business license for KIOF-LP 97.9 FM / Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. for 400 S. 4th St. Suite 500, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
2016 - The main studio for KIOF-LP 97.9 FM was moved from 7260 Early Pioneer Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89129 to 400 S. 4th St. Suite 500, Las Vegas, NV 89101 on Saturday, January 16, 2016.
2016 - EAS implementation for 47 C.F.R. Part 11 was put in place the last 2 weeks of January. Initial testing was completed on Saturday, January 30th.
2016 - On February 1, 2016, Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. received it's broadcast license for KIOF-LP 97.9 FM from the Federal Communications Commission.
2016 - On March 15, 2016, Las Vegas Public Radio Inc. filed and changed it's IRS tax status to become a 501(c)(3) charitable organization to expand it's local community presence throughout the Las Vegas valley.
2016 - Las Vegas Public Radio activates it's 96Kbps Internet stream for KIOF-LP 97.9 FM "LIVE" 24/7 Internet broadcasting on October 1st due to listener demand.

2017

2017 - On February 1, 2017, Las Vegas Public Radio celebrated it's first year on the air.
